Two More Shutouts for BU Softball Team

SAVANNAH, GA--For the second straight day the Bloomsburg University softball team did not allow a run in sweeping Chowan University, 10-0, in five innings, then beating West Liberty State, 2-0, on Monday.

In the opening, Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) and Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) combined for a three-hit shutout in the 10-0 victory. Lynn went the first four innings and allowed two hits, while the freshman, Shavaun Fisher, went one inning allowing one hit.

Leading the way with the bats were Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) who was 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. One of Shiko's hits was a home run. Also, Mandy Koch (Dauphin/Central Dauphin) went 2-4 and hit a two-run homer, while Natalie Zimmerman (State College/State College). also hit a solo homer.

In game two, Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) tossed a two-hit shutout for the second straight day and also struck out 12 batters for the second straight game in leading Bloomsburg to the 2-0 win.

The Huskies scored the only runs of the game in the bottom of the seventh. Reed and Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport/Jersey Shore) got back-to-back singles leading of the inning with both runners moving up a base on a wild-pitch. Koch then followed with a two-run double giving Bloomsburg the victory.

Bloomsburg is now unscored upon in its last 28 innings dating back to the last two innings of its second game this season.

The Huskies, 5-1, play at Catawba College on Tuesday in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
